Welcome to the Mile High Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators!
President's Message
On April 3, 2009, I assumed the role of President of the Mile High Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. Following a class-act President like Jason McCord will be no easy task. With Jason’s Presidency, Board Members enjoyed a new era of personal and professional achievement. We’re pleased that Jason has dedicated himself to the ALA and to the promotion of the benefits afforded to actively involved members. Thanks Jason!
As I assume the role of President of our association, I remind myself why I’m here and what this office and the Association of Legal Administrators mean to me. Foremost, I am here because I am devoted to working with attorneys and managing the administration of their firms. That conviction alone probably makes me sound a little crazy. For me, my relationship with the ALA is my lifeline. It’s a network of professional colleagues. It’s a collection of good friends, some of whom have become best friends. It’s a network of people just like me, some of whom need a little help sometimes and all of whom are among the first to offer their assistance when they have the answers.
Last month the National Association of Legal Administrators announced that in light of the current and continuing economic situation, they have authorized extending the time period for access to valued benefits. "For ALA members who have paid their membership dues for 2009 and who became unemployed after October 1, 2008 (or who become unemployed in the balance of 2009) will continue to receive Regular Member benefits past the 180-day standard until they become employed OR through the end of the year (whichever comes first) if unemployment should continue that long."
We are pleased to announce that the Mile High Chapter's Board of Directors voted last week to extend Chapter membership benefits to be consistent with ALA. For Chapter members who have paid their ALA membership dues for 2009 and their chapter membership dues for 2008-09 and who became unemployed after October 1, 2008 (or who become unemployed in the balance of 2009) will continue to receive Regular Member benefits of the chapter until they become employed OR through the end of the year (whichever comes first) if unemployment should continue that long.
This year's Community Challenge Committee will be collecting donations from members to help feed the hungry! All you have to do is bring your donations of non-perishable food items to any or all of the monthly Luncheons and Cores scheduled this year. The CurtisHotel has generously agreed to store the food bin for us, so we’ll have it available at every monthly event. When the bin fills, the committee will give all donations to a local food bank or transitional housing facility. Together we can make a tangible difference in the lives of local families. Thanks for your participation!

An Even More Powerful
Law Firm Tool!
Lorri Salyards, CLM current Mile High Chapter member and Past President is scheduled to teach in the Principles of Law Office Management and Human Resources Management modules of the Essential Competencies for Legal Administrators sessions to be held in November of 2009. These sessions qualify for possible partial reimbursement under the Mile High Chapter Educational Subsidy Program.
What is this, you ask?
ALA's Essential Competencies for Legal Administrators program is an educational opportunity for principal administrators, functional specialists, or anyone new to the legal profession. Through case studies, real-life examples, visual presentations, role playing and interactive question-and-answer sessions, you will walk away with a great understanding of what every principal administrator should know, as well as manageable and realistic ideas to keep you and your firm on the cutting edge of legal management.
